I don’t like the idea of dropping my phone and collecting all the pieces from floor

Reply

I have me a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, I’ve dropped this poor sumbitch out of trees, 15 feet onto pavement with no case, I’ve dropped hammers on the screen, it’s fallen out of my pocket driving an ATV down a gravel road, I’ve left it outside in -50C weather, and gotten it nice and toasty to 45C. All I have to show for it is a wee little scratch in the upper right corner of the screen.

Some kid got a brand new iPhone at school a few days ago. Dropped it at waist height and the screen shattered.
Can’t speak to the quality of cheaper Samsung, mind, I’ve never owned a cheap Samsung phone (Although mine was still a lot cheaper than the equivalent iPhone)

JayY1Thousand Apple relies on idea that people are tech ignorant. And yeah, their software not only unreliable it’s full of edge cases, where..iOS can just shut down if something in environment is wrong, and never would be able to boot. Even their compiler go quality of standard implementation issues.  Even some “sci-fi” gadgets they add? fingerprint sesor? unable to work when charged, because of EM-incompatibility. There is cellular network here that kills any iPhone, because they don’t have “standard” time service, as that network isolated from internet (yes such exist, isolated networks for certain reasons) .. that results  that if iPhone  get connected to it, it fails to get datetime, which go reverted to  zero values..  which results in crash of kernel. It never will boot up again and it’s not even a warranty case.

Reply
Nirav - posted on April 15, 2017 1:11 am

People would rather buy “shitty’ iPhones due to lack of marketing of these products by other companies and Google should get more flac for this because they released pixel instead of doing modular.

Reply
Emchuck44 - posted on April 18, 2017 5:34 am

+JayY1Thousand If Apple haters were informed about tech then they would know that the iPhone 7 had the best camera of 2017. The iPhone 7 still has the second best camera after 7 months. Design depends on opinion. The iPhone SE is comparable to the iPhone 6s not the 7. The screen quality isn’t the best but their is more to the screen than just the quality. The iPhone’s screen can detect pressure and most others can’t.

Reply
Anathelus - posted on March 27, 2017 3:16 pm

Just solder it on to the PCB and make a 3.5mm hole on the shell of the phone, might also have to modify the IOS to include aux port functionality as there would be no need for it on the new iphones because they don’t have it..

Why do you “have to admit” that you were hyped about modularity? What is bad about it?

Reply
Charlie Foxtrot - posted on March 25, 2017 8:19 pm

he stated that a modular phone would still have irreplaceable core parts, and would cause the phone to be bulky unless they really shrink the core parts which would make it underpowered.

Reply
Rokoman - posted on April 18, 2017 1:53 pm

Smartphones deliver the functionality they do for the price because all the core components are integrated into a super compact and mass producible frame.

Adding modularity demands you separate these systems. Driving up price and bulk while driving down performance.

That doesn’t mean they won’t increase that hardware to 1080p later on, be nice to get 4k output on the screen passout too.

Reply
Enduh - posted on April 16, 2017 11:24 pm

I don’t really get the complaint about the 720p screen. For the size of the screen, it looks wonderful. I’m holding a switch right in front of me, it looks great. And when docked the TV output can be up to 1080p 60fps, and to be honest: yeah I guess having a 4K option would be nice, but it really isn’t needed as the functionality and diversity of the switch making it smaller it would be very expensive to get 4k when it really isn’t needed.

Reply
Malkhut hinds-bernard - posted on April 17, 2017 6:36 am

Enduh ikr 720 is good, it’s considered HD on YouTube. And with a small screen like on the switch, you won’t be able to see the bad quality, like if you made a small picture with 100 pixels, then put it on a giant movie screen, the pixels would be larger, to fit the screen, so you can see pixlization. But on a small screen, it’s good

Apple is like the Thomas Edison of phones and tablets. He didn’t INVENT the light bulb, but he certainly improved and effectively marketed it. Apple, did not invent touchscreen devices, but they certainly improved and very effectively marketed them. They have become such a tech-powerhouse that they automatically set the standards and trends of modern day phones.

Yoooooo Pause The VIDEO !! Ok. Why did the modular concept fail ? IT DID NOT FAIL ! 🙂

The Major Companies sat down together, had a cup of tea and decided they all will shut it down, why? because it will hurt them big time, avg user buys 1 phone 1-2 year(s), with the modular concept avg user will pay around 100-150 a 1-2 y without it 100-1000 1-2 y depends on your pocket size, so overall they willll lose money.
